Happy New Year Everyone! Finally the holiday anxiety has quiet down but I will definitively miss the season. Yesterday we celebrated a Mexican holiday called Dia de Reyes and, to continue with the Christmas spirit we had to visit Disneyland again! Dia de Reyes is similar to Christmas with the difference that we celebrate Three Kings that arrived to Nazareth, each one bringing a gift for baby Jesus.
During this holiday kids receive gifts and we eat the traditional Rosca de Reyes (Mexican pastry) which has baby figurines hidden along the cake. The cake represents the King Herod's plan to kill all babies that could be Jesus. Whoever finds the figurines has the responsibility to host a dinner with Tamales in February 2nd (Dia de la Candelaria). In my family we never do the dinner, but it's always fun when someone gets the figurine and tries to hide it.
This year we ate the rosca on our way to Disneyland. We had to go before they take out all the Christmas decorations. And like always they had a little Dia de Reyes celebration at California Adventure. We were surprised that it was so crowded in a Monday and we didn't even try getting in line for most of the rides. We decided to watch the Aladdin show which is always funny and would recommend to anyone who visits Calfornia Adventure. The Genie is such a great character and the set design is beautiful.
Last time we went we didn't stay late so we couldn't see the lights on; which are amazing during this season. I was excited to take some pictures at night with my new Canon camera (The best Christmas gift from Hector). The castle looks magical!
Here's our Rosca de Reyes leftovers. And guess what? I was the lucky one to find baby Jesus! Great excuse to host a party next month right?
